5. Shikamaru Nara
Perhaps the smartest character in the Naruto-verse, Shikamaru Nara, is a mastermind tactician and military strategist. In the beginning, everyone only saw Shikamaru as a lazy Genin trying to easily and effortlessly make his way through the Ninja academy. However, as he grew older, his genius became quite visible to everyone in the village. He earned praise from Lady Hokage Tsunade herself and many more to come. Shikamaru also learned a great deal from his father Shukaku, and his sensei Asuma. The simple matches of Shogi between them lent a great hand to him in actual battle. With Shikamaru on your side, you just can’t lose. Read: Popular Anime like Naruto fans would love

3. Norman
A character from the anime The Promised Neverland, Norman, can be put in the same leagues as Shikamaru. With his tactical genius, Norman makes the best use of all the resources available to them to make an escape from the evil orphanage, and that first escape goes to show how he can use his smarts in the best way possible. Because not every time you have great technology available to you. When things are looking down and difficult, a character like Norman can find a way out no one ever even thought of. This problem-solving trait makes him worthy of the third spot on the list.
2. Lelouch Lamperouge
The titular character of the Code Geass series Lelouch is an exiled prince of the Holy Britannian Empire. Gifted with a very high-level intellect Lelouch was already a force to be reckoned with. And to add to that, he was given the power of Geass by a witch. The Geass he wields makes people do his absolute bidding, however it comes with certain limitations like he can’t command the same person twice unless the effect is removed by someone capable of canceling the Geass. The Holy Empire is led by Lelouch’s father, and all it does is conquer cities and wreak havoc. In order to defeat his father, he forms a resistance and with his ultra-high intelligence and abilities of the Geass, Lelouch becomes a powerful force every enemy would be terrified of. Lelouch has also been popular otherwise in the media, with him being voted the best male character of the years 2006, 2007, and 2008. His voice actor Jun Fukuyama was given the best voice actor award by Tokyo International Anime Fair as well as Best Actor in a Leading Role award at Seiyu Awards in 2007. Needless to say, this character had to be on the list.
1. Light Yagami
I don’t think anyone is surprised to see Light as the number 1 smartest anime character of all time. Deathnote is considered to be a Gateway Anime, meaning the first anime most people watch which spawns them into the world of amazing characters and brilliant storylines. Light is undefeatable for several reasons, firstly because he owns the Deathnote (until the very end of the show at least) and secondly, because of his genius intellect. Whether it’s about choosing a place for hiding his Deathnote or outsmarting the likes of L, Light can do it all. And so, he is our perfect number 1 smartest anime character of all time.
